Norwegian Turbo –Tour in UK
16/5 – 07/6 2002.
Hello all Turbo-owner`s in UK.
The journey started in midle of Norway, at a small place called Skogn, on a Newspaper- mill there, were we are employees.
We went onboard on a cargowessel (Nornews Leader) who bring`s newspaper to UK every week. And we left the wessel two days later in Tilbury, then we went in to London and visited the Parliament, the Tower Bridge and the Millenium Weel. After this sightseing, we called Turbo-Tim and he arranged a meeting at his home in Alton.
We had a nice Turbo-chat and looked at his race-bike and the other bikes he owned. The “time” did fly that evening, so much to talk about. (big thanks to Tim)
Next morning we called Ramona Green for a meet, but unfortunately for us she was busy with repairing her bike for the German meet, (Sorry) so we went down to Dover and visited the Castle instead, and we had some nice hours on the castle, the sun was shining and all.
That night we got a nice B/B in Dover. The following day we visited Folkstone, Brighton and down to Portsmouth were we used the ferry out to Isle of Wight, and spent the rest of the day there. It was a wery lovely island, and a lot of nice people.
After a good night sleep in Pool we set the cours to Weymouth, and the Bill of Portland. After a chat with some locals out there, they recomended us to see the whole of Cornvall.
We stopped in a small willage called Liskeard, and met som very nice and caring people there, so we desided to have a “basecamp” there for a couple of days.
Then we had a beautyful journey all over Cornvall, and we stopped at a small place called Four- Lane, and arranged a meeting with a Turbo-owner there, Mr. John Keep, a nice guy. We stayed for a few hours at his place, and had a look at his Turbo 500 T and his nice Triumph, 650 i think it was? And we had a nice chat over a cup of coffee.
The next day we drove to Bristol, and in the evening while i relaxing on my bed, looking in a bikemagazine i saw an add for Superbike world campionship on Silverstone that weekend, that was perfect for us, so we decided to go there.
We arrived in some mixed weather, (heavy showers) but after all a marwelous day at the raceway.(I`v been on The Silverstone, thats big) a dream came true.
Late that day, we went south again and we drove down to M4, south of Oxford and spent the night in B/B there.
Monday morning we felt nice and fresh and desided to visit Wales.
We found a nice place too sleep in a village called Carmarhen, then we followed the whole coast around Wales up to Aberaeron, there on a pub, we met a local fellow and he showed us the whole village for the evening and for the most of the night, so in the morning we had a (lovely) hangover. Hm, hm.
This guy Georg recommended us to stop and visit Chester, and have a look at the famous walls around the old city, before we went on up to Liverpool, and we did, and that was a great sight.
We arrived Liverpool and went down to the docks, and out to the pir for the Seacat to Isle of Man. The date was 29th of may and a lot of bikers went on the ferry to Douglas and the TT-races on Isle of Man that following weekend.
We desided to cross the border of Scotland, and since we were curious about Ireland we drove out to Stranraer for the ferry over to Belfast.
Stayed the night in a private home just sout of Belfast, and drove up the eastern coast to Londonderry the following day, and straight down to the village/town of Antrim, where we found a B/B on a large farm with some nice people.
Next morning we went back to Stranraer again and followed the westcoast of Scotland up to Glasgow, and on the motorway we had some fun with speeding
after a Ferrari . Just outside Falkirk we found a cheep hotel for two days, and went to Edinburgh to buy some bikewear and visit the famouse castle of Edinburgh.
We met some locals who recommended us to follow the eastern coast up to Dundee, and we stopped in Kirkaldy, Buckhaven, Crail and St. Andrews all nice small towns with plenty of nice people.
St. Andrews was the last town before Dundee and our wessel back to Norway.
After these 3 weeks driving around, we almoust drove 4000km, and we enjoyed every km.
We have spoken about plan`s for next year, and we decided we will return to see the TT-Races on Isle of Man, and to see the southern part of Ireland.
We want to thank Turbo-Tim for his hospitality and the help with the list of Turbo-owners in UK, and abowe all, all the phonecalls he did for us so we could get in touch with Turbo owners all over UK.
